ST. PETERS--Police are on the lookout for a suspect J.B. known in the district of St. Peters as “Poya” who is believed to be responsible for shooting Immigration Officer Jason Juliet in his upper left leg in a Chinese restaurant on L.B. Scott Road in the vicinity of Benny Scots’ property on Wednesday close to 7:00pm.
The Daily Herald understands that there was an argument between Juliet and the man who ended up shooting at the officer. The two were arguing about a mutual friend when tempers flared and J.B. started to shoot at Juliet, who tried to run away from the gunfire.
Police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson confirmed that the incident had taken place and said, “The victim, who was shot in one of his legs, was found on the scene and treated on the scene by paramedics and then taken by ambulance to St. Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. After committing this act the suspect fled the scene. At this moment it is still unclear what the reason for the shooting was.”
The area has been closed off for the Forensic Department to collect evidence and the detectives to talk to witnesses and conduct an in-depth investigation.
Jason Juliet is the son of the retired police spokesman Inspector Geronimo Juliet.
According to police, the suspect in the shooting is well-known to the police and lives in the St. Peters district. The investigation continues, as another officer of the law was assaulted.
