Identification of body in container still pending

MARIGOT--Vice-Prosecutor Yves Paillard said Monday the identity of the decomposed body found in a container in the Galis Bay port is still not known as obtaining a result from the DNA takes time.

He said the body, a young male, had no marks on it consistent with weapon injury. No identification, belongings nor luggage was found with the body, if the victim had been a stowaway.

He noted the container had arrived on the Dutch side from St. Thomas, USVI, where it was unloaded and then taken to Galis Bay where it remained for five months without moving.

The discovery was made last Wednesday. The Gendarmerie is appealing for any information that can help the investigation. To report a missing person or provide further information call the number “17.”
