Hundreds bid farewell to Joseph “Joe” Richardson

Hundreds bid farewell to Joseph “Joe” Richardson on Monday at his funeral service, with many reflecting on his progressive contribution to the building of St. Maarten. He was considered a giant in the political landscape dating back to his years as “Saba’s youngest ruler,” a quote from “Ebony” magazine in 1969 when he was appointed Administrator, to his most recent work at forming and mentoring many of today’s political leaders. Richardson served the communities of St. Maarten and Saba in many capacities: as a politician, member on the boards of several Government-owned companies, civil servant, Island Councilman and Commissioner in St. Maarten, and Administrator in Saba. Joe leaves to mourn his wife Loretta Richardson-Every, five children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. “Joe 4 So,” as he was also known, was 72.
