MARIGOT--A doctor was taken into custody by Gendarmes for questioning during a search of Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital on Monday, it was confirmed by the French-side prosecutor.
Capitaine Arnaud Gerard of the Gendarmerie confirmed that an investigation has been opened with the prosecutor, but declined to name who had been taken into custody or give any further details.
A subsequent communiqué from the Prosecutor stated: “Pursuant to Article 11 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and due to erroneous information published on social networks, the public prosecutor confirms that searches were carried out today (Monday) at the Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital in particular between 10:00am and 1:00pm, without incidents, in the presence of a representative of the Medical Association and Public Prosecutor’s Office (in accordance with Article 56-3 of the Code of Criminal Procedure).
“This is in the context of a preliminary investigation aimed at verifying the relations existing between a doctor who is a member of the hospital’s institutional medical commission and structures governed by foreign law, as well as a subsidised association, under the possibility of a criminal procedure, in particular, of taking illegal interest.
“This doctor, currently in police custody, enjoys the rights relating to this measure and, of course, the presumption of innocence, while he is being heard by investigators of the detective section of the Gendarmerie.”
