ST. EUSTATIUS--The owner of a home in Concordia, where the galvanized zinc’s roof was partially ripped off by Hurricane Irma, is opting for a concrete roof as part of the Home Roof Assistance Programme.
The programme to rebuild roofs with concrete instead of zinc is financed by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations. The roofs will be replaced and upgraded to meet the requirements in the Building Construction Code.
The technical team consists of experts in building codes Esmond Hook, Austin van Heyningen and Wim de Jong.
De Jong, who is also the external controller for the programme stopped by the building site to perform an inspection, to make sure everything was being done according to the Code and with safety in mind.
De Jong said that everything was being done correctly. “Because of the conditions set for safety, the home had to be reinforced to withstand a concrete roof,” De Jong said.
All additional repairs or additions to this house in Concordia are to be financed by the homeowner.
The home in Concordia had to have additional work done to strengthen the structure. Columns and pillars were added to reinforce the home to withstand the weight of the concrete roof.
