COLE BAY--Grocery shoppers in the Cole Bay/Simpson Bay and surrounding areas will soon have another option to get their fresh produce, groceries and household products when Greens Market opens its doors sometime in July in the former Daily Extra building.

“The supermarket is a rebirth of Daily Extra. We hope to provide a one-time stop and convenient retail store that supplies the daily necessities of our customers at reasonable prices,” co-owner Karen Xue told The Daily Herald.

Asked about the choice of the name “Greens Market” she said, “Green, the colour that represents life, renewal, nature and energy, outstandingly defined our intention to become revived and rebirthed from Hurricane Irma in 2017 and the fire incident that happened in 2018. Being a survival of both casualties that happened, we hoped to rise and grow together with the people and island of St. Maarten.

“Moreover, the word ‘green’ is also associated with the meaning of growth, freshness and environment. We hope to provide the best quality of fresh and healthy products to our customers.”

Xue said the supermarket will carry a range of products from grocery to household items. “We aim to provide a one-stop store for customers, so that they are able to collect all that is needed for them in just one store."

She said the Cole Bay and Simpson Bay areas do not have a good-sized supermarket and reopening the supermarket in this area will help the local neighbourhood residents to reduce time and effort in traffic to go over the hill to get their grocery needs. Visitors on the island who stay in the Simpson Bay area can also get easier access and local prices of products they need.

The supermarket will be completely renewed with more and higher shelves and refrigerators to accommodate more variety of products to supply shoppers.

The supermarket is located at Welfare Road #57 in Cole Bay.
