Govt. to honour FBE students August 28

PHILIPSBURG--Students who performed exceedingly well at the Foundation Based Education (FBE) Exit Examinations will be honoured during a ceremony at Government Building on Tuesday, August 28. Since 2012, government has been honouring six graders who perform well at the exams which determines placement in secondary school.

Education Minister Wycliffe Smith said that this year the Ministry of Education will continue to recognise pupils for their exemplary performance at the exams. The ministry usually selects the five pupils who score the highest. Smith said this year, the ministry will honour seven pupils with highest overall scores as there was a tie between two pupils. The top pupil in each subject area (Math, English, Dutch and General Knowledge), will also be honoured.

A total of 509, sixth graders sat the exam earlier this year. The exam tests the pupils on their level of understanding and proficiency in English, Mathematics, General Knowledge and Dutch.
