PHILIPSBURG--Civil Servants and Carnival Booth Holders were evacuated Friday afternoon after a cloud of black smoke covered the area.
Fire fighters rushed to the Landfill close to 12:00pm to help control the fire on the dump site. Tires apparently were in the mix, causing the smoke to reach all the way to the Cole Bay/Simpson Bay area.
Booth holders and village goers where not happy with the move, however law enforcement officers told them the evacuation was for their own safety. No word yet if the culture night will still go ahead as planned tonight, Friday in the village.
