Fire Dept. approves  two fireworks display permits

PHILIPSBURG--The Fire Department has granted two permits for public fireworks displays that will ring in the New Year on Monday. One is related to a display in Philipsburg and the other for the Maho/Sunset Beach area.

Both displays will commence at midnight on Monday.

The safety officials also announced on Friday that there will not be any consumer fireworks on sale this holiday season.  One entity did submit paperwork to start the process related to the import, transport and sale of consumer fireworks, but did not complete the permit process.

The Fire Department, the police, Customs and the Coast Guard will be vigilant to ensure that all fireworks activities at both displays are according to the granted permits.
