Fill for landfill

A barge filled with dirt and bits of construction debris came into port on Tuesday, raising the eyebrows of many residents who are concerned that garbage from St. Barths is heading to the local dump.

The barge's cargo is destined for the dump but is actually "fill" to cover the dump to prevent flies and fires. The fill was purchased by Robelto and Sons, the contractor managing the dump. This is not the first time that fill has been brought in from St. Barths to cover the dump. The readily availability of fill is mandated in the landfill management contract.
