Golden Rock Roman Catholic School’s graduates at Tuesday’s ceremony.
ST. EUSTATIUS--Fifteen pupils graduated at Golden Rock Roman Catholic School on Tuesday. The theme for the 2019 graduation ceremony was, “Go Make A Legacy.”
After pastor Simon Wilson conducted a prayer, Deputy Government Commissioner Mervyn Stegers gave an encouraging speech, and Judith Gibbs said a few words on behalf of the school board.
Valedictorian of this year’s graduating class Jurgen Leon reflected with his classmates on their journey to reach this point in their education. He reminisced about the excitement of the first time he and his classmates arrived at Golden Rock School, and the arduous effort they all put in to pass their exams.
He thanked group-8 teacher Rhea Courtar for her encouragement and for guiding them through their final year at the school.
“Now, we are on this stage doing our graduation ceremony, preparing our minds to get our tanks, airplanes, boats and weapons of knowledge ready to go into our next war, secondary school: [Gwendoline van Putten School – Ed.] GvP,” Leon said.
He made special mention of his mother for pushing him to succeed, and he encouraged his classmates to continue pushing onward in their educational pursuits. He said it was his dream to become a videogame developer and travel to Japan.
Keynote speaker Dihiara Pierre-Arnaud congratulated the graduates on their achievement and gave an inspiring address in which she stressed the importance of education.
Many graduates will be continuing their educational journey at GvP School in the new 2019-2020 school year.
