Family of five homeless after early morning fire

COLE BAY--A family of five, including three children, are now homeless after a fire of unknown origin destroyed their home and all of their possessions, including a vehicle, around 3:45am Saturday, March 17.

Acting police spokesperson Inspector Rensley Henson said in press release on Monday that a call came through the police Central Dispatch about a house on fire at Belle Tree Drive in Cole Bay early Saturday morning.
Police and Fire Department personnel rushed to the scene where they encountered a home completely engulfed in flames. The owner of the home told authorities he had been asleep when he suddenly heard his children screaming. When he awoke, he realised his home was full of smoke. He and his family were able to evacuate the home safely without injury.
Henson said the cause of the fire is being investigated.
