Extra Judge to assist in eliminating Irma backlog

PHILIPSBURG--Judge M.Th. Hoogland will become a deputy member of the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao and St. Maarten, and of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba.

She will be deployed as a Judge with the Court in St. Maarten for three months to help with the removal of the backlog in cases caused by the temporary closure of the Courthouse after Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
The Kingdom Council has decided to nominate Judge Hoogland for appointment on the proposal of Dutch Minister of Legal Protection Sander Dekker, also on behalf of his counterparts in Aruba, Curaçao and St. Maarten.
Hoogland (1962) will start as a deputy member of the Joint Court on April 1. She is currently a Senior Judge in the Noord-Holland District Court in the west of the Netherlands. Before that she was Vice-President of the Court in Haarlem.
