WILLEMSTAD--The “Ami ta Prepará” (I Am Prepared) Expo took place last Saturday at Plasa Brion. Visitors received information and practical advice on how to prepare themselves and their families for a crisis situation.

The event was held by the Directorate for Risk Management and Disaster Policy DRR in collaboration with various partners as part of the “Ami ta Prepará” awareness campaign. Several emergency services, rescue organisations and government agencies were present at the expo.

Also participating were units from the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Organisation CRBO, their liaisons and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) active in the field of crisis management.

Visitors were provided with tips – applicable at home – to prepare for emergencies. Organisers emphasised that preparedness is a shared responsibility and that well-prepared households allow emergency services more capacity to assist vulnerable individuals during a crisis.

This year also featured an inaugural scavenger hunt. Teams that had registered in advance spent the afternoon travelling across the island, completing tasks related to risks and crisis situations.

Afterwards, they gathered at Plasa Brion for the awards ceremony. The winners received a grand prize of 2,500 Caribbean guilders provided by Banco di Caribe.
