Dutch Parliament First Chamber Chairwoman Ankie Broekers-Knol, Second Chamber Chairwoman Khadija Arib and delegation toured hurricane-damaged Princess Juliana International Airport SXM on Saturday along with St. Maarten Parliament Chairwoman Sarah Wescot-Williams, her secretariat staff, and Head of the Dutch Representation in Philipsburg Chris Johnson. Airport Chief Operations Officer/Acting Chief Executive Officer Michel Hyman conducted the tour. The group had a tour of several districts afterward. Both visiting chairwomen were “touched” by the damage and destruction caused by Hurricane Irma, according to a statement issued by Parliament. They were also “impressed” with progress made and the resilience of the country’s people. The visit was part of a visit to St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba to show solidarity and support to the people who survived Hurricanes Irma and Maria, two major storms that made landfall in September 2017. The delegation will also visit Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire.
