PHILIPSBURG--The Dutch St. Maarten Police Force KPSM and French St. Martin Gendarmes conducted joint preventative controls in the Dutch Quarter, Sucker Garden, Middle Region and French Quarter areas from 10:00am to 4:00pm Monday.
According to police, controls were focused on making sure all motorists that were controlled, cars and motorcycles alike, were in compliance with the traffic laws on both sides of the island, to ensure that these laws set in place to make the roadways safe are followed at all times for everyone’s road safety.
Several cars were pulled over for tinted windows that exceeded the 70 per cent visibility law and the owners were asked to remove the tint on the spot.
One arrest was made when a driver who attempted to flee the scene was found to be in possession of 27grams of marijuana.
Ten motorbikes were seized due to lack of documentation proving ownership of the bike in question.

These controls were carried out based on the French-Dutch treaty on police cooperation. They also help further develop the working relationship and cooperation between the French and Dutch law enforcement organisations.
