Disaster management talks

Prime Minister Leona Romeo Marlin and Curacao Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath received an evaluation report on Hurricane Irma from Leslie Fer, Curacao Disaster Management Coordinator. Fer highlighted critical areas of concerns and had recommendations for the future.

St. Maarten will start plans to host a disaster coordinators conference for all Dutch Caribbean islands with the end result of developing a Kingdom Disaster Management Plan, setting up of a Dutch Caribbean disaster management team, defining Article 36 of the statuut, the use of Aruba or Curacao as a hub during a disaster or crisis and the financial responsibilities resulting from a disaster. Both Prime Ministers see the need to learn from the mistakes post-Hurricane Irma and pledged to improve and build on the existing cooperation.
