Curaçao records 35 cases of Zika

WILLEMSTAD--Minister of Public Health Siegfried Victorina finally appeared before Parliament to answer earlier questions about the Zika-virus in Curaçao. He said there are currently 35 people with the virus on the island.

“Among them there are no pregnant women,” the minister assured.

During the original Parliament meeting on February 1, he said that at the time there were four officially registered cases. That number has since risen at a rapid pace.

“I have learned that there were two cases added to the initial number on February 8, so there had been a total of six people with Zika. On February 10 there were 14 new infections bringing the total to 20 and last Saturday another 15 people were added to the list, so that the count now stands at 35.

“Obstetricians and paediatricians have confirmed that it does not concern pregnant women.”

The ministry is currently engaged in the provision of an additional three-digit information number. Last week the free line 0800-0888 was already opened and inquiries may also be made through 9345, but this number is not free.
