WILLEMSTAD--Five new operating room assistants have obtained their diplomas in Curaçao. According to the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature GMN, they are expected to contribute to increased operating room capacity as well as the quality and accessibility of healthcare.
Minister Tyron Boekhoudt (MFK) congratulated the graduates during the certificate presentation ceremony. He said training local medical professionals is a key component of the effort to achieve a sustainable healthcare system.
This marks the first group of operating room assistants to graduate through the programme. GMN views it as an investment in the education of qualified personnel.
Boekhoudt highlighted healthcare staffing shortages and the rising demand for care. Consequently, GMN is focusing on both developing local talent and recruiting medical specialists in fields where there is a shortage of such expertise on the island.
To this end, the ministry is collaborating with medical institutions in Colombia to attract specialised physicians for medical fields where local expertise is insufficient. GMN states that its efforts should simultaneously offer local healthcare professionals opportunities to further apply and develop their knowledge.
According to a government release, the training of operating room assistants is part of a broader strategy to strengthen healthcare capacity and reduce waiting times.
