Culture Department seeks ‘new’ artefacts

Part of the Culture Department’s artefact collection.

ST. EUSTATIUS--The Department of Culture of St. Eustatius has started an Artefacts Donation Programme.

In an effort to incorporate as much history into its work in developing, promoting, documenting and archiving the culture of Statia, the Department is making a call for local artefacts.

According to the Culture Department, the collection must be “deliberate and sustainable,” and, therefore, new items are accepted into the collections.

The artefacts can be donated for short term, long term or seasonal. The department is looking for objects such as signs, pictures, architectural fragments, archaeological findings, ornaments, pictures, videos and other items related to heritage, traditions, beliefs, customs and history.

Potential artefacts can be brought to the office of the Department of Culture at Mazinga Square. More information can be obtained from Nasha Radjouki at tel. 318-2883.
