The Bureau for Intellectual Property (BIP) attended a recent two-day workshop in Curaçao organised by Curaçao’s Ministry of Economic Development with support from the Competitiveness of Enterprises and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (COSME) programme.

The focus was on how best to implement the proposed strategy for the registration and use of intellectual property by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Overseas Caribbean Territories (OCTs). The use of intellectual property as a competitiveness tool for enterprises was also explored. COSME contracted event facilitator Kayanne Anderson to conduct a study on SMEs’ use of intellectual property as a competitiveness tool. Anguilla, Aruba, Bonaire, the British Virgin Islands, St. Eustatius, and the Turks and Caicos Islands were also represented at the workshop as well as business service operators, government ministries and intellectual property offices. BIP Director Rosen-Sandiford said about the forum: “Collaboration is vital to the success of the Bureau and the use of intellectual property by SMEs in the region.”
