PHILIPSBURG--Monday’s closed door emergency meeting of the Central Committee of Parliament on crime was adjourned to this Friday.
All members of the Council of Ministers were present for the meeting. The Daily Herald understands that all Members of Parliament (MPs) in attendance addressed the issue of crime and posed varying questions on the subject. Most MPs wanted to know what the public can expect from government to curb crime on the island.
Some MPs said government needed to find out where the guns that are easily accessible to the public are coming from. The meeting was adjourned after the first round around 3:00pm.
When the session resumes on Friday the ministers are expected to provide answers to the questions posed.
Monday’s meeting was sparked by Wednesday’s tragic shooting of bike patrol officer Gamali “Benji” Benjamin, who was gunned down on Front Street while responding to a robbery in progress at a jewellery store. He succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
