Changes coming to SMVTS in new year

 PHILIPSBURG--Proposals for change at St. Maarten Vocational Training School (SMVTS) based on an audit at the institution will take effect in the new 2019-2020 academic year.

  Minister of Education Wycliffe Smith said on Wednesday that he and his team had received a presentation last week on the outcome of an audit conducted at SMVTS.

He told reporters during the Council of Ministers press briefing on Wednesday that discussions have been held with all stakeholders at the school, including teachers, management, students and parents, and “much background” information had been gathered.

  “At this point, the way forward is being planned with the team from the school along with the change coordinator, Mrs. Patricia Philips-Lourens [a former Minister of Education – Ed],” Smith said. “All parties involved are currently being sensitised to the improvements desired for the school and how we intend to achieve these.”
