PHILIPSBURG--Struggling and payment-delinquent businesses are entitled to waiving of their outstanding annual St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce and Industry fees pending prior to and including 2014. The waiver ends on June 31.
The waiver was announced as part of the Chamber’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
Payment of outstanding fees by businesses for 2015 to 2019 is required for businesses to remain current in the Chamber of Commerce’s system.
COCI Executive Director Anastacio Baker said the Chamber is continuously looking at improving its services to the business community.
Also in connection with the anniversary, COCI plans to select a business owner to attend Seatrade Cruise Global conference and expo in Miami, Florida, next month.
The conference is considered the cruise industry’s most significant worldwide event which will take place at the Miami Beach Convention Center April 8-11, bringing together some 11,000 professionals.
Baker said the cruise industry is pivotal to the economic development of the country. “We have clearly experienced for ourselves the fundamental role played by Port St. Maarten right after the passing of [Hurricane – Ed.] Irma in September 2017.”
COCI, via the selection, wants to give a local business the opportunity to promote its services and products to the cruise industry.
“This business gets the exposure and experience of being at an international conference/expo. … We are here to facilitate the business sector, which in turn benefits the economy of the country,” said Baker.
