PHILIPSBURG--The Committee of Civil Servants Unions (CCSU), formally known as the GOA, submitted a positive advice on the police function book to Justice Minister Cornelius de Weever on Friday, February 22.
CCSU is the advisory body for matters related to civil servants. CCSU said in a statement on Thursday that it held a meeting between its members and de Weever on Friday, January 11. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the function descriptions and function evaluations for primarily immigration submitted by de Weever.
CCSU invited the Nationale Algemene Politie Bond (NAPB) union NAPB and ABVO police union to participate in the meeting in the capacity as observers as both unions represent the majority of unionized members within the Justice Ministry and are currently not represented in the CCSU due to insufficient membership.
On Thursday, January 17, CCSU said it received the complete set of documents to review from de Weever. CCSU has up to six weeks to provide feedback on matters related to the function book, once all relevant documents have been submitted.
In its advice submitted to the Minister last week Friday, before the deadline of Thursday February 28, CCSU informed the Minister that they saw no reason for the establishment of the function book to be further delayed, as the approval of this document would solve many of the personnel challenges the police has been facing since 10/10/10.
As it relates to the legal position of the police, members expressed some concerns. Members informed the Minister that it was unclear to the CCSU in which “stadium” of the legislative process the documents found themselves in and therefore reserve the right to review and provide a new advice on any amended or new version of the draft function book for the police. Members of the CCSU considers this important to ensure that the rights of the persons affected by these documents and which the members represent, are secured, it was stated in the release.
