CBCS board looks into leaked memo

WILLEMSTAD/PHILIPSBURG--The Supervisory Board of Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS) says it regrets the negative reports about the monetary authority of the past days with confidential information that management would have at its disposal.

The board stated it attaches great importance to reliability and integrity of the Central Bank as an institution. The discretion, integrity and reliability of the financial sector supervisor must be beyond any doubt.

The board has taken note of the available information and decided to independently investigate the facts and circumstances of the recent events. It will review based on these facts and circumstances to what extent there were actions against the bank’s statute and/or Country Curaçao, to be followed by appropriate measures.

Candidate minister for MAN Neysa Schoop-Isenia has sued and threatened to file a complaint against CBCS and particularly its acting President-director Leila Matroos-Lasten, as well as a claim for damages. She apparently made available to the CBCS shareholder representative and Finance Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha (MAN) a memorandum on Schoop-Isenia from 2014. The attorney of the proposed member of the PAR/MAN/PIN cabinet referred to “extremely negative statements “ made by CBCS in the context of her screening procedure.
