POND ISLAND--Charlotte Brookson Academy (CBA) for the Performance Arts has been asked to vacate the University of St. Martin (USM) building with immediate effect.
The school received an email from a USM representative requesting that it vacate the building.
CBA was one of the institutions that was badly hit during the passage of Hurricane Irma, which destroyed the former Government Administration Building in which the institution was housed. CBA has since received one of the pavilion tents donated by the Netherlands to continue its classes. The pavilion was set up on the ring road, but apparently is not yet ready for use.
CBA wanted to request a week’s reprieve from USM to enable the high school to properly inform its students and their parents that it will be moving to the tent on the ring road. This will also afford the school time to properly prepare the tent to receive students.
Schools will reopen on Monday, January 8. USM is set to reopen its doors on the same date.
USM has been closed for regular classes for several weeks due to financial constraints and only recently decided to reopen after signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Government for a financial injection to enable the university to continue its operations.
Neither CBA nor the USM representative contacted responded to The Daily Herald’s request for comment on the matter.
