PHILIPSBURG--The Cambridge Assessment International Education will no longer be offering its International General Certificate Secondary Education (IGCSE) Dutch Examinations after 2020.
Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports said on Monday that this notification came in last year and all school boards offering this subject were notified by Cambridge as well as by the Division of Examinations.
He said the ministry is looking into various options and after it is discussed internally and presented to the various stakeholders, it will be sent to the minister for final approval. “As it stands the process is still in the comparison stage, where the pros and cons of the various options are being weighed against each other, so that we can find the best possible alternative to offer our students,” Smith said.
Schools that follow the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams such as St. Dominic High, St. Maarten Academy, Methodist Agogic Center Comprehensive Secondary Education and Charlotte Brookson Academy for the Performance Arts offer the Dutch Cambridge Exams to its exam students. Dutch is mandatory at these schools.
The Cambridge Assessment International Education said on its website it will be withdrawing its Cambridge IGCSE Dutch – Foreign Language examinations. “The last examination for this subject will be June 2021 (there is no option for candidates to re-sit after this date). We communicated this decision to schools in December 2018,” Cambridge said on its website.
