British national drowns in Simpson Bay Lagoon

PHILIPSBURG--Coast Guards and police retrieved the lifeless body of a man from Simpson Bay Lagoon on Constitution Day. The man’s acquaintances reported that he was David Davidson, a British national.


Davidson, who was retired and was staying on a boat, died by drowning. His body was spotted floating in the lagoon on Monday morning.
The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM Central Dispatch received a call around 11:00am. Coast Guard assistance was called in to recover the body. The Coast Guard immediately sent a Metal Shark patrol boat to the location.
After the body was brought to shore, the deceased was handed over to the police and the Prosecutor’s Office for investigation.
According to the police, no traces of a criminal act have been found on the body. The man is believed to have fallen into the water, may have been or may have become unwell, and drowned.
There are various stories about the circumstances of the drowning, from excessive alcohol use to malicious intent. However, Davidson’s death is classified as an accident.
KPSM expressed its condolences to the victim’s family.
