Boat capsized by wave, 2 rescued

MARIGOT--Two persons were rescued on Wednesday evening after their boat capsized between Baie Rouge and Baie aux Prunes, the Gendarmerie disclosed.

The Gendarmerie’s operational centre received a call at around 6:45pm about an overturned boat near Baie Rouge. The four-to-five metre vessel had apparently been hit by a wave and taken on considerable water causing it to capsize.

The two persons on board, both adults, managed to climb onto the overturned hull and called for help with a cellular phone.

Immediately, the Gendarmerie’s Brigade Nautique, sea rescue service SNSM and fire brigade (sapeurs pompiers) were dispatched to the emergency. At 7:30pm, the Brigade Nautique rescued the two victims who were in good health and handed them over to the pompiers.

SNSM towed the capsized vessel back to shore.
