Biker performing stunts during Fiona in hospital with fractures

Unknown persons removed the dirt bike from the scene before police arrived.

PHILIPSBURG--A female dirt biker performed stunts on the flooded Middle Region Road during the passage of Tropical Storm Fiona on Saturday, and lost control. She slammed into an oncoming truck.

The woman broke a hip and fractured her left knee and left wrist. First aid was administered by Ambulance personnel before she was transported to St. Maarten Medical Center.
The accident occurred on Middle Region Road close to Margaret Bruce Drive around 3:00pm, according to the information received by the Central Dispatch of St. Maarten Police Force KPSM.
When police arrived at the location, they found the injured woman, but her dirt bike had been removed from the scene. This created difficulties for the further in-depth investigation by the KPSM Traffic Department into what precisely had occurred at the scene.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the bike rider lost control and ended up in the wrong lane, resulting in a head-on collision.
KPSM again issued a warning to scooter and motorcycle riders, as well as motorists, about their reckless behaviour in traffic. Serious accidents and severe damage keep occurring on the road, police stated.
KPSM will intensify controls on scooters and motorcycles, as “many riders are not respecting or obeying the traffic regulations and their behaviour continues to be a nuisance to the community and endangers lives.”
Anyone with information about the rider who was injured on Saturday or any other plaguing the community, can contact KPSM on + 1(721)542-2222 or emergency number 911.
