Barge laden with sand beached in Galisbay

This huge barge laden with sand was seen beached in Galisbay on Monday driven ashore by strong Northerly swells pounding the coastline from Sandy Ground to Grand Case.

The vessel ran aground in almost the exact spot where the “El Maud” shipwreck was located. That wreck was salvaged in July 2017 at a cost to the Collectivité of 395,000 euros. The back road of Galisbay and Boulevard de France were both closed to traffic. Both roads were littered with rocks, debris and Sargassum weed. Photo courtesy Maxime Boulestin.
