Baie Rouge restaurant raided by Gendarmes

MARIGOT--Gendarmes swooped on a Baie Rouge restaurant suspected of operating illegally late Sunday afternoon, August 19, closing the restaurant and seizing materials.

A post on Facebook by sxminfo.fr described a judicial police operation conducted at Chez Raymond on the beach with up to a dozen Gendarmes taking part.
The control was confirmed by the Prosecutor: “The public prosecutor confirms, following the numerous posts on social networks, that within the framework of the Committee of the Environment and Town Planning Policing, the objective of which is to allow legal reconstruction that respects the rules of urban planning, a report of a blatant illicit exploitation of a beach restaurant in Baie Rouge was made Sunday, August 19, by the Gendarmes, and the material of exploitation was seized.
“The investigation is ongoing and the Public Prosecutor's office will soon disclose the nature of the planned criminal proceedings against the operator and his daughter, who are currently being heard, and who occupy private property without right or title.
“They have also carried out work without a building permit, in an area that cannot be built on in accordance with the local Plan Occupation de Sol (POS) and which is subject to strong Plan Prevention des Risques Naturelles (PPRN) constraints (i.e. irregular exploitation), without declaring the staff or paying charges and taxes corresponding to turnover tax and without having a licence to sell alcohol.”
