MARIGOT--The Collectivité is still faced with the problem of finding alternative locations for the businesses still operating in the condemned Auberge de Mer building at Marina Port La Royale, and consequently demolition of the building is on hold for now.
Asked about this situation, President Gibbs said at a recent press conference: “I’ve always said we can’t proceed with construction or demolition without solving certain situations. It’s not easy to put these businesses into the same working conditions that they enjoy today, but we are working on it with SEMSAMAR to find alternative locations. In fact, we have found a couple of solutions that we will be proposing to the businesses shortly.”
The first idea to move the businesses into small containers in the adjacent car park was rejected by the businesses as being unworkable. The businesses were originally given two months to vacate the building in October 2018 after the building was deemed to be “in peril.”
The building is to be replaced by a new marina investment project. However, the businesses went to court to try and win more time to find other locations. Since then nothing has happened, the businesses are still there and demolition work that was taking place in vacant parts of the building gradually stopped.
