Arrindell released for medical reasons

PHILIPSBURG--Businessman O’Neal Arrindell, who was arrested on Tuesday for removing his luxury yacht that had been seized by authorities last month, was released from custody due to medical reasons on Thursday, two days after being detained.

Arrindell was detained by the Ant-corruption Taskforce TBO and is suspected of intentionally removing the yacht "Jefe," which had been seized on July 11, by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

A press release from the TBO stated that the suspect had been "temporarily released" by the Public Prosecutor’s Office because of medical reasons. The Public Prosecutor’s Office said Arrindell, whom was identified in the press release by his initials O.A., is still suspect in the case.

Arrindell, who is the owner of Checkmate Security, is a suspect in the “Emerald” investigation. Arrindell and suspended Port St. Maarten Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Mingo are suspected of defrauding the harbor of US $11 million over a number of years.
