Armed robbery shocks Maho: Thieves hammer through jewelry store glass

Crowded Maho witnesses the violent break-in

MAHO — Nightlife patrons in Maho were left stunned Saturday night after four masked men dressed in black violently smashed their way into a jewelry store in the heart of Maho Village, before making off with bags of stolen items in a waiting getaway car.

The robbery occurred around 9:00pm, at a time when the area was bustling with vehicles, restaurant-goers and visitors heading to casinos and bars. Witnesses said the suspects repeatedly struck the glass storefront with hammers until it shattered, then climbed through the broken window to enter the store.

Once inside, they quickly filled bags with jewelry. As bystanders shouted “Call the police!”, several onlookers grabbed their phones and began recording. Videos of the robbery are now circulating on social media.

After grabbing the stolen goods, the men fled in a silver-colored vehicle, reportedly heading toward Lowlands.

Detectives of the St. Maarten Police Force (KPSM) are investigating the incident. Additional details will be released as the investigation progresses, KPSM stated.
