Armed robbery at Island Water World

COLE BAY--Three armed and masked men stormed into Island Water World in Cole Bay on Monday, threatened the cashier and stormed off with a small amount of cash.

Island Water World Group Manager Birgit Rothel said the establishment never keeps large amounts of money on its premises.

She said the three men entered the establishment around noon, and ordered everyone to lie on the floor, including customers, who were in the store at the time. The cashier was approached, threatened and asked to hand over the funds. The cashier complied and the men stormed out of the establishment, and escaped with a small amount of funds. No one was injured during the ordeal.

Rothel said police responded fast and took the video footage that was available of the incident. Rothel commended her staff for their bravery during the ordeal, which she said had been an “ugly experience.”

Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a police press release on Tuesday that the matter is being investigated.
