Anguilla represented at UNICEF Youth Symposium in Trinidad

Delegates from Anguilla to the UNICEF Youth Symposium.

ANGUILLA--Four young people from Anguilla were in attendance at the UNICEF Youth Symposium held last week in Trinidad and Tobago with the theme “Our Education: Our Future, Our Say.” A presentation was made by Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School student Tahique Connor, on the teaching of English as a second language. The need for this was stressed as Connor noted the large Spanish-speaking community in Anguilla. Twelve countries from the Caribbean were represented at the Symposium.

Anguilla was represented by Anguilla National Youth Council President Neil Gumbs, National Youth Ambassador Corps member Melissa Harrigan, Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School students Jenine Phillip and Tahjique Connor, chaperone Jocelyne Mills, Programme Officer – Youth, Hyacinth Augustine-Bradley and Ministerial Assistant to the Minister of Home Affairs, Evalie Bradley.

Given the present situation within the Eastern Caribbean regarding issues related to education, the focus of this symposium was ensuring that children are kept in and connected to schools.
