PHILIPSBURG--St. Maarten AIDS Foundation continues to empower high school students through the Real Talk and Girl Power workshops. The foundation held several workshops last week, with participation of more than 100 students.

Some 36 Sundial School second-form students graduated from Real Talk workshops held November 18-20. Facilitators of these workshops were Nadine Richardson, Marcia Ravelli-Holiday, Heather Caputo and Eric van Arneman.

The AIDS Foundation also facilitated a two-hour BOOSTER programme on the topic sexual health for St. Dominic High School fourth-form students on November 21.

“The BOOSTER programme focuses on encouraging students to make wise decisions and be safe when it comes to sexual relationships, effective ways of communicating and focusing on their future goals,” the foundation said in a press release on Friday.

The BOOSTER programme was a follow-up to the foundation's Real Talk and Girl Power workshops in which all students had previously participated. In this programme 36 boys participated in the Real Talk workshop and 42 girls in the Girl Power workshop.

Facilitators of the BOOSTER Girl Power were Karin Van Der Plas and Priya Raju. Facilitators of the BOOSTER Real Talk were Heather Caputo and Lisa Arrundell.

The St. Maarten AIDS Foundation thanked the facilitators for their participation. “Without them these workshops would not be possible.”
