EBENEZER--The Preparatory Secondary Vocational Education (PSVE) section of St. Maarten Academy emerged victorious in the first round of the annual interscholastic debate competition held at Rupert I. Maynard Youth Community Centre in St. Peters on Saturday, October 20.

This is the first year the school entered the debate competition. PSVE debaters Abigail Stevens, Aliya Prince, Jordani Labadie and Tifaunia Joseph debated the proposition with Charlotte Brookson Academy (CBA) for the Performance Arts opposing the moot “The government of St. Maarten should implement recycling measures in the country.”

Stevens won the title of Best Speaker for the competition.

PSVE thanked its debate team, their parents/guardians, the school’s English Excellence Department under the leadership of Lancer Celestin, who coached the students along with Roberto Arrindell, and all others who supported the team to ensure their success.

The next round of debate will be held at the same location this Saturday, October 27, starting at 6:00pm. During this round, the school will be debating against Learning Unlimited (LU) Preparatory School opposing the moot “GEBE should utilise renewable energy resources for electricity production.”
