PHILIPSBURG--A total of 100 spaces are available for persons to participate in the Emergency Income Skills Training Programme in which persons can enhance their marketability while receiving a stipend and medical insurance.
The training programme has evolved from the former hospitality skills training programme. Labour Minister Emil Lee told reporters on Wednesday that a registration drive is currently being held for participants for the programme. The registration drive is being conducted under the National Employment Service Centre (NESC) at the Department of Labour Affairs.
The Labour Affairs Department is registering unemployed persons and is going through the data of persons who had registered to participate in the programme. Once they have selected 100 persons, those names and applications will be sent to the St. Maarten Training Foundation, which is managing the skills training programme.
Participants have to maintain minimum attendance and meet learning objectives. “You have to work and you have to study. The idea is that you are increasing your employability and skillset so that as the hospitality industry starts coming back online, you will be more employable and then you can move into the normal working sector,” lee said.
