1 dead after car runs off road, slams into bridge

PHILIPSBURG--Police, ambulance and firemen responded to a fatal car accident on L.B. Scott Road at 11:10pm Monday. A young man driving a white Suzuki Swift with licence plate P7470 was travelling toward St. Peters when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a bridge on the street.

The man, whose identity remains unknown, died instantly, according to police, who started their investigation immediately. Police Chief inspector Ricardo Henson told The Daily Herald the man, who is believed to be in his early 20s, will be identified as soon as possible. Officers are investigating the cause of the accident.

The Fire Department assisted with the removal of the body from the vehicle. Traffic was diverted for part of the evening before the car was towed away and the body transported to a funeral home.
