PHILIPSBURG--The Department of Health, Social Affairs and Labour VSA received a total of 1,367 requests for employment permits in 2016.
Of this number, 1,280 were granted, Minister Emil Lee told Members of Parliament (MPs) during the continuation of a meeting of the Central Committee of Parliament on Wednesday.
A total of 620 of the requests were for renewals; 291 were for adult entertainers, 427 were first-time requests and 29 were for changes of positions.
Most of the permits requested were for adult entertainers, the second most were for security guards, third most were for maids, fourth most were for teachers and the fifth most were for cooks.
Lee provided the information in response to questions posed by an MP in an earlier session of the meeting, which was about the draft National Ordinance to amend the Civil Code to stem the abuse of short-term labour contracts, and some other national regulations.
