Fun Father’s Day activities

Sunday is Father’s Day – and your father, stepfather, grandfather, and/or uncle deserve a celebration to remember. Sure, you might get them a nice gift or send them a heartfelt message, but planning a nice day out for the men we love most might be the best gift of all.

  • Breakfast in bed: Breakfast in bed should not just be for mothers! You can make any male role model in your life feel special by bringing him his favourite breakfast treats. Too lazy to cook? No problem. Sugar Mill Café has an amazing brunch special for dad’s special day (read about it below).
  • Shopping: Treat your favourite man to a shopping spree. Think local hardware stores, clothing boutiques, perfume or shoe stores. Or what about some jewellery – because men also deserve some bling. We suggest stopping by Caribbean Gems on Front Street for a gift Dad will cherish forever.
  • Morning hike: St. Maarten has over 20 miles of hiking trails to explore with your father – from coastal strolls to hikes in the hills, some leading to untouched beaches, others to glorious views of St. Maarten and other neighbouring islands.
  • Fishing: Fishing is one of the most classic Father’s Day activities for a reason. When else do you get to stand side by side and catch up on life while you enjoy the majestic waters surrounding our island.
  • Golfing: They say golf is a good walk spoiled, but not when you spend 18 holes’ worth of quality time with Dad. You can hire an instructor for a golf lesson for you and your dad – a great excuse to hang out together, pick up tips from a pro, and improve your game.
  • Picnic: Pack his favourite snacks, sandwiches, drinks and a cute blanket and take your dad to a surprise picnic location – we have plenty of outdoor spaces to choose from on St. Maarten.
  • BBQ: Celebrate Dad by firing up the grill and cooking up all his favourites.
  • At-home wine or beer tasting: Toast to the special man in your life with a DIY wine or beer tasting with a range of beverages and accompanying snacks – charcuterie boards anyone?
  • At-home movie night: End the day with a movie night, or even a movie marathon for a lazy Sunday at home. Whether your dad loves action, comedy or drama, there are plenty of good movies to watch this Father’s Day. Just don’t forget the popcorn!
  • Beach day: Grab a lounge chair, pack a lunch and head to the nearest beach for a leisurely day of lounging in the sun.
  • Sports game: Find a local game to attend, whether it's soccer, netball, or baseball, or watch an international game together – check out page 6 for our local and international sports schedule.
  • DIY day: Lend him a helping hand with one of the many projects on his to-do list. Whether he needs help cleaning the yard or painting a wall, your assistance will be the greatest gift of all.
  • Bird watching: Take your favourite guy to a serene spot in the park and see what kinds of sky creatures you may run into. This is also a great opportunity to just check in, fill him in on everything that's going on with you and see how he's doing as well.
  • Live music: Why not enjoy some live music together? Check out our events schedule on page 8 for some great local music events.
  • Family dinner: If your family members happen to live nearby, gather them together for a special family dinner. Dads, grandfathers, uncles and brothers will enjoy reconnecting and it’s the perfect opportunity to take that long-overdue family photo.
  • New restaurant: It’s easy to get stuck in the same old routine, especially when it comes to eating out. Do some research and find a new spot to help shake things up – St. Maarten has plenty of eateries to choose from. Who knows, it just might become a new family tradition.
  • Boat trip: Look at our beautiful island from a different perspective by taking the special men in your life on a fun boat trip.
  • Spa day: Spa days are not just for the ladies. If yours is the kind of dad who appreciates being pampered, book him a luxurious massage, haircut, or professional shave.
  • Dessert date: you can spend the day sampling local dessert bars or hit up some old favourites. If that doesn't sound too appealing, you and your favourite guy can always spend the day baking some sweet treats that you know you'll both enjoy.
  • Game night: Puzzling, playing board games, or video games could be the perfect way for Dad to unwind after a busy week. Collect his favourites, pour him a drink and provide some snacks for a great game night.
