Carnival’s 55th season is almost here!

Causeway Jump-Up

Last week was the pre-event – Republic Bank’s Carnival-55 Kick-off – so the energy is already building across St. Maarten! The rhythms, the colours, the community spirit – everything we love about this time of year is starting to come alive. One of the most exciting warm-up events is the Causeway Jump-Up happening this Friday, March 20.

Starting at Soggy Dollar, this lively parade will begin at sundown taking you on a vibrant journey around the lagoon, passing through Cole Bay and Simpson Bay. It’s not just an event; it’s a moving celebration! Music trucks pump out infectious beats, revellers dance in the streets, and the entire route transforms into a rolling party that captures the true spirit of Carnival. Everyone is welcome to join in.

It’s a true community event where tourists and locals let the music guide them as they jump, dance, or simply soak in the atmosphere. So, if you happen to be visiting the island this weekend, it’s one of the best ways to feel connected to the island’s culture and get a taste of what Carnival season has in store.

A quick tip: While the Jump-Up is all about fun, it does come with some traffic delays along the route. If you’re planning to be in the area, it’s best to park early and enjoy the experience on foot. Also, you might want to rethink that 8:00pm dinner reservation as you could end up arriving much later than expected!

So, plan for an earlier meal and then head out to catch the parade as it passes by, or you may want to just jump in – literally! Grab your friends, bring your energy, and get ready to jump – Carnival is calling you!
