Animal lovers across St. Maarten are invited to mark their calendars for a meaningful evening on the water at the World Stray Animal Sunset Sail, taking place Saturday, April 4, hosted by Aqua Mania Adventures. This special event is both a celebration and a call to action – raising awareness and vital funds for the island’s ongoing stray animal crisis.
Behind the scenes, several dedicated organizations work year-round to improve the lives of abandoned animals. St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation has long led the charge through education, rescue and sterilization, helping fund over 15,000 spay and neuter procedures. SXM Paws continues to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals, while Island Cat Rescue Foundation focuses on humane population control through Trap, Neuter, Release programs. Rounding out the effort is Animal Defenders, known for responding to urgent cases and providing critical care.
The event begins at 3:30pm with a pre-sail gathering, where guests can meet these organizations and support their work through donations, raffles, and supplies. At 5:15pm, attendees will board a sailing catamaran for a 90-minute sunset cruise along the island’s stunning coastline, complete with open bar, snacks, and breathtaking views.
Tickets are $50 and include all pre-sail and onboard offerings. With limited space available, early booking is strongly encouraged. Even if you can’t attend, there are many ways to help – from volunteering and fostering to donating supplies or sponsoring sterilization efforts. Don’t miss this opportunity to make a difference while enjoying an unforgettable sunset at sea. Secure your spot in advance and be part of a community effort to create a safer, more compassionate future for St. Maarten’s animals.
