BELIZE--Team St. Maarten was drawn in group d of the CONCACAF Nations Leaggue with French Guiana, St. Vinceent and the Grenadines and Belize. St. Maarten started the competition with a 1-0 defeat to home team Belize.
Tuesday St. Maarten faced French Guiana, and lost 1-0 at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, Belize. Joel Haabo scored the winning goal deep into stoppage time in the 90+5th minute.
“After a slow start in the first half St. Maarten came out stronger in the second half created a lot of chances,” said ST, Marten Football Federation President Johnny Singh. “However only French Guiana manage to find the net in the last kick of the game.”
St. Maarten still have four more games to play.
“Two more in this window, October 2nd and 6 against St Vincent and the Grenadiens .. then one against Belize. They face French Guyana again in the November window in St Vincent and the Grenadiens.
“Tough up hill battle to focus and fight to stay in the B poule of the concacaf nation league.” Singh continued, “However we are staying positive and remain focus that we will overcome this challenge.”
The president also mentioned the team was missing some key players due to work and pesonal commitments.
St. Maarten will next face Saint Vincent and the Grenadines October 6.
