Team Island Water World sailor, Frits Bus, third in class at Caribbean Midwinter Laser championship

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC-- Team Island Water World sailor , Frits Bus, finished 8 overall and third in the Master Class at the annual Midwinter Laser Championships at Cabarete in the Dominican Republic January 21 to 23.
The regatta is organised each year to give an opportunity for the local and other Caribbean sailors to test their skills against some top visiting sailors.
Due to Covid the Regatta had not been sailed for the past two years.
Normally this time of the year Laser sailors home porter in the Northern hemisphere , prepare for their Olympic campaigns and qualifications by traveling to warm waters.
“The visiting sailors can be surprised by the quality of the Caribbean sailors especially from the DR,” said Bus. He continued, “local Olympian sailor Raoul Aguayo swept the fleet winning 9 out of 10 races in challenging and changing conditions.”
Wolfgang Gettz from Germany was second and Mike Matasz from USA was third.
A total of 25 sailors entered Midwinter Laser Championships.
The first race started in light breeze but finished with 18 knots. The wind kept building and the second race was sailed in 30 knots plus.
The building wind pattern continued for the three days of racing.
