COLE BAY--SXM Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu celebrated the hard work, perseverance, and progress of its students at the May Belt Graduation Ceremony, held May 20 and 22.
The event brought together families, friends to witness not only belt promotions, but also a special demonstration by students, showcasing their skills and discipline developed on the mats.
At the heart of SXM BJJ’s mission are its core values: Evolution, Resilience, Stewardship, Patience, Confidence, Discipline and Respect. These principles guide every student’s journey, both on and off the mats, helping to build not just skilled martial artists, but empowered individuals.
The ceremony was led by SXM BJJ's Head Instructor, Melissa Bardfield, a third-degree black belt and the founder of the academy and assisted by black belt Johan Steinber Munoz Rodriquez and Jami Eloi.
Students promoted to White/Grey Belt included Federico Tolentino, Neleah Gipson, Malaysia Hanson, Jaylanie "JJ" Mills, Emmelyn Wassen, Liam Sisal, and Dasha Labasti. White/Yellow Belt promotions were awarded to Ixandro Jones Bautista, Shahyr Phillips, Miliani Rondei, and Jonatan DaSilva. Yellow Belts were earned by Madison Liburd, Leyah Lucas, and Ayanna Romney. Those promoted to Grey Belt were Lucas Xue, and Dayka Sharick.
Emily Wathey Jurica, Adeline Lista, Harley Lobotka, Gibson Speight, Tim Scholz, and Amalia "Maya" Zabala received their Grey/Black Belts. Ottone Faurois moved up to Orange/White Belt, while Mila Johnson was promoted to Orange Belt. Keenan Benjamin will earn Orange/Black Belt in adults class.
In addition to their new belts, several students were recognized for their exceptional effort and personal growth with Special Achievement Coins. These tokens of distinction were awarded to Federico Tolentino, Neleah Gipson, Jaylanie "JJ" Mills, Emmelyn Wassen, and Mila Johnson. Their commitment and progress stood out as exemplary among their peers.
Each promotion and honor reflects countless hours of dedication, courage, and perseverance.
