SXM BJJ athletes excel at St. Barths BJJ Open

ST. BARTHS --St. Maarten’s SXM BJJ athletes Megan Lockhon, Tristan Lista, Adeline Lista, Rylan Benjamin and Topper Daboul all remained undefeated taking gold at the St. Barths BJJ Open tournament on Saturday, March 16th.

A total of 44 athletes from St Maarten age 6-55 traveled to St. Barths to compete from St. Maarten’s SXM BJJ/Team Renzo Gracie. Matches began with traditional Gi (Kimono) matches for kids and Adults and ended with No-Gi (Submission Grappling) for adults and teens. Division winners include blue belt Louis Grea, white belt Dimitri Burrel, orange belt Max Rosa 9 year old who fought opponents much heavier and up to two years older. Teen assistant coach Nakysha Jedreon also went undefeated after a very challenging match with St Barth’s Brazilian phenom Lorena Freires. Brown belt coach Jami Eloi lost a close final match (Gi and No-Gi) to an opponent over 50lbs heavier, demonstrating incredible heart and will. Black belt professor Melissa Bardfield’s brown belt female opponent was injured and much to the disappointment of the students was not able to have a match.
